This was my first Hoya. In fact, it was my fist two Hoyas. My local and most favorite nursery announced that they were getting both the Hoya Kerrii and the Hoya Carnosa Compacta on their evil Instagram that has cost me a lot of money… Any way. I went in to get both and they sadly did not have both! But there was was the sweet Kerrii, and since I was going in to get two Hoyas I did… I’m not the most rationale person. The trick with most Hoyas is little water, lotsa light. Now remember here not all plants will take the same care, it always helps to keep an eye on them as you both become comfortable with each other. Lille mister Hoya Kerri is such a beautiful fun vining plant. It will shoot out its stem (later I’ll check and make sure this is the right lingo. I feel very wrong with this right now.) and the leaves are such an instinct heart shape. I’m a sucker for heart shaped leaves. Especially if they vine out. I do have a third Hoya Kerrii that is a variegated version of it. Unfortunately it is just the leaf. When propagated you do need to have apart of that stem with it so she will vine out. If not there is a very large chance it will just be that one adorable leaf. However, the other two have done very well. With one it has a trellis that it grows on. The second is on a hanging shelf that it has grown and vined up and around it. Now the thing with these and growing is that they do grow slow. But when they do grow it is typically all of a sudden and you think to yourself where did this come from?

When it comes to sun don’t skimp out. They love sun. I have mine sitting in a South facing window, where I also have the Hoya Kerrii Albomarginata will typically want more sun. Now that I say that I am fully aware that both types are in the same spot. But remember, plants do not go by a rule book and sometimes you gotta work together to learn what makes them happy.

Water your Hoya Kerrii like you would a succulent. It has been described as a tropical succulent after all. I typically water mine on Sunday. -Isn’t there something magical about watering on a Sunday? Maybe its weird, but hey find your thing right. I don’t always water them every Sunday. Sometimes my Spidey Senses just gives me that urgent feeling to skip a week here and there. Make sure that the pot is lighter weight, and that the very well draining soil is dry. You can also tell if they are thirsty by the leaves. If they look wrinkled and easy to softly pinch it is going to need some water. Now just like a succulent these guys will be easy to get root rot, so pay attention to that heavy wrist as you pour water.

Fast draining soil is a key component with this guy. If you mix your own soil grab that perilite! I have yet to repot mine, but from what I have researched it does not repotted often, about every two years.

Propagate this guy by taking a cutting and putting it the dirt and wait for it to grow. You can also take the cutting and put it in water as well. It can take awhile for them to root. Full disclosure, I have yet to propagate one. I just cannot bring myself to cut one yet.
